May Social

When I was a child my family would travel
Down to Western Kentucky where my parents were born

And there's a backwards old town that's often remembered
So many times that my memories are worn.

And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay

Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away

Well, sometimes we'd travel right down the Green River
To the abandoned old prison down by Adrie Hill

Where the air smelled like snakes and we'd shoot with our pistols
But empty pop bottles was all we would kill.

Then the coal company came with the world's largest shovel
And they tortured the timber and stripped all the land

Well, they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken
Then they wrote it all down as the progress of man.

And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay

Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away

When I die let my ashes float down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester dam

'll be halfway to Heaven with Paradise waitin'
Just five miles away from wherever I am.

And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County

Down by the Green River where Paradise lay

Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away

I guess you have figured out that our May Social included our hubbs.  Melony hosted this months event at her cabin down on Green River and we had a blast.   The only way in is by 4x4 on a muddy 1/2 mile man made road.  So private in these parts, no running water or electricity.  But lots of critters!

As the sun went down and I sat on that weathered front porch swing  listening to the crackle of the fire and the crickets chirping in the background.  I could easily see why Mel & Mark love this place so much.  No it's not fancy.  It's simply just plain simple.   I wondered if this was how my grandparents and great grand parents spent their Saturday nights.  The women cooking for the men.  And the men telling tall tales.  No television or the internet to keep them entertained.  Just "good ol'fashion company" gathered together on the ol'front porch.

It's really good to see this group growing and being a part of each other lives besides being at the mines.  No, not all of us wives have the same interested and a lot of us didn't know each other til we started our monthly meet back in February.  But I do think its moving right along just as we wanted it to.  We wanted our husbands to not only have a good relationship with their fellow workers but with their families as well.  No matter how different we may be our common bond is what we hold dearest to our hearts.  That our men go to work with a clear head & knowing how much we love them.

Thank You Melony & Mark for such a wonderful time.  Your place is like none other that I've ever visited.  I  really enjoyed it all and most of all spending time with my coal family.
